ITMB is pleased to release the most recent recreational travel map for British Columbia, part of our goal of mapping this province comprehensively. The Cariboo district is immediately west of the Wells Gray region (released earlier this year), and the Chilkotin is west of the Cariboo. When combined with the yet-to be-released Tweedsmuir Park region (one week), we will have comprehensive mapping for central BC. This map covers the popular resort lakes of Bonaparte and Canim, follows the Fraser River north to Quesnel, and maps for the first time the wilderness western reaches of the province – Chilco Lake, the Itcha Range, and the Blackwater River. All known hiking trails, forestry campsites, parks, fishing areas, resorts, and canoeing areas are included on the map; printed double-sided on paper;

Finally! This is the most innovative map we've published in years! This is the first proper digital data base map of Africa ever published that covers the entire continent from top to bottom and east to west.

The continent of Africa is fascinating. Whether on wishes to visit the continent or just learn more about it, a detailed map is vital, and a good map is hard to find! The first edition of our ITM Africa map sold out in less than two years. We have added a considerable amount of data to this edition of the map, particularly in the northwest portion. One has to be careful not to overload a continental map with too much information, or to show roads so prominently as to obscure too much the map, but one also has to have enough information to make the map useful, readable and attractive. We feel that this edition moves in this direction, but it is a work in progress, so more data still needs to be added in the future. However, as with all second editions, corrections have been made and pertinent information added.

From Michelin's yellow Local series of Europe maps comes this map of Puglia at 1:200 000, showing excellent detail in this region of Italy. The map has the usual excellent road detail characteristic of Michelin maps, with everything from motorways down to rough tracks and footpaths marked out clearly. The number of lanes is indicated on most roads, with intermediate road distances, European route numbers and tolled roads also shown.

The map includes highly detailed relief shading that's derived from satellite photos, with plenty of spot heights also. Finally, our ITMB map of Uzbekistan is back in print! Tourism to the ‘Stans’ is increasing as these former parts of the Soviet Empire find their way in a changing world. This time, we have combined the country with the two other Stans on one side, which makes sense given their shape; then, on the reverse side, we have expanded the artwork to show Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan to good advantage. The map also includes excellent inset maps of Samarkand, Tashkent, Dushanbe, and Bishkek, which I’m sure all are familiar names. Needless to say, all three countries count as ‘adventure’ travel. Facilities are good in major cities, but roads are of an uncertain quality, and accommodations sparse. Still, this is an exceptionally interesting part of the world. The traditional Great Silk Road passed through this region, and to this day Tashkent is a major trading transfer point. Nine points of major interest are included, including the Ark-Citadel dating from 400BC, the Minaret of Kalta-Minor, and the great Caravanserai from the Middle Ages.

The hundreds of islands making up the island nation of Indonesia make a double-sided map inevitable in order to show any significant amount of detail. Side 1 shows the western half, starting with Sumatra in the upper left and including Java and most of the island of Borneo (Kalimantan Province to the Indonesians). This side also includes a large inset map of central Jakarta (for better detail see our separate map of the city); ditto for Sumatra, Java, and Borneo. Bali, Lombok, and Sumbawa islands are in the lower right portion of the map, and most of Malaysia and all of Singapore are included, simply because they are there. The infamous volcanic island of Krakatoa is located just to the west of Java. The other side of the map covers the less-travelled and therefore more interesting eastern islands – Sulawesi, Flores, New Guinea (West Irian Province), and Timor are the best known. Komodo National Park, home of the fierce lizards called Komodo Dragons, is on the map. Ferry routes between the islands are shown and are quite reliable, but sailings are subject to weather conditions. Indonesia is a very large country, and this map shows it in good detail. However, it is also a country that covers a very large area. For this reason, ITMB has also published several sectional maps of islands within the country in order to show touristic areas with an improved scale. Ontario is the industrial heartland of the country, and the southern portion is the most densely-populated and urbanized part of Canada. Toronto is a city of 2.8M people and the heartland of an economic region serving 100,000,000 people in two countries. Southern Ontario is also home for six million residents, some of the most historic sites in the country, and major recreational land masses (Algonquin Park, Bruce Trail, Muskoka/Haliburton). Northern Ontario, on the other side of the map, occupies the bulk of the land area of the province, and is dominated by the Canadian Shield (a pre-Cambrian rock formation that is the oldest land on earth, rich in mineral wealth). The North is dominated by recreational activities, wilderness adventures, and mining tours. Ontario also has ports for ocean-going ships in Lake Superior and on James Bay. Indonesia is a huge and varied country of many islands and many cultures. The Javanese dominate the country. Not only is the island centrally located, but the rich soil and hard-working people has turned the island into the economic powerhouse driving the country’s economy. Indonesia’s capital, Jakarta, is located on the island’s north shore, and is the subject of a separate ITM map. This map concentrates on the island’s many charms: the temples of Yogyakarta, the colonial architecture of Surabaya, and the rustic charm of mountainous East Java. The map abounds in insets, including central Jakarta at 1:25 000, but also Cirebon, Bandung, and Solo, Semarang, Surabaya, Yogyakarta, Malang, and Yoga to Prambanan at 1:90,000, and the Dieng Plateau at 1:35,000. Zoals je van Michelin mag verwachten zijn het onmisbare overzichtskaarten van een uitstekende kwaliteit: een duidelijk en goed leesbaar kaartbeeld.  Vrijwel alle berijdbare wegen staan er op ingetekend, in kleur verschillend voor grote en kleine wegen. Andere weginformatie omvat bijvoorbeeld kilometer-afstanden, tolwegen, helling-aanduiding, winterafsluitingen, tankstations maar ook de bekende groene routes: de mooiste wegen om te rijden.

Daarnaast geeft de kaart toeristische informatie met symbolen weer: bezienswaardigheden als kastelen, kloosters, musea, maar ook campings (niet allemaal overigens). De kaart is voorzien van een 4-talige legenda.

Toch hebben de makers door een beperkt gebruik van symbolen geen drukke kaart gemaakt. De kracht zit hem dan ook in de combinatie van meer dan voldoende informatie en goede leesbaarheid.

The northern portion of the United Arab Emirates consists of a small peninsula (Qatar) and an island (Bahrain). Although these countries are not geographically significant in relation to their neighbours, they are enormously wealthy, thanks to oil, and have aspirations of grandeur. Qatar hosted the FIFA World Cup of soccer in November 2022. This is significant. Qatar, as a destination country, is now 'on the map'. What can I say about Thailand that hasn t already been said? This is our eighth edition of this ever-popular title. A detailed description of each of the walks is shown on the back of the map.

Detailed contoured map of the park in southern Queensland on the NSW border. Overprint highlights several hiking routes, from 0.5km to 24km long. Symbols show various facilities in the park, including accommodation, camping areas, viewpoints, places of interest, etc. Enlargements show two areas with main facilities and accommodation: Green Mountains/O’Reilly’s and Binna Burra. This is a brand new map for ITMB and concentrates on the fast-changing southern portion of Chile (known as the Austral) and Patagonia, which technically only exists in southern Argentina, but in reality can't be shown easily on a map without including the same area in Chile. Thus, one side concentrates on Chile south of Los Angeles (yes, there's one there too!) in two long strip maps that go all the way to Cape Horn (or Hoorn, in Dutch) south of Tierra del Fuego. Although it has nothing to do with this part of Chile, we have also included the main portion of touristic Easter Island, an inset of what is popularly referred to as Robinson Crusoe Island (Alexander Selkirk was marooned here for a number of years, and is the real-life model of the fictional Crusoe) and an inset map of Ushuaia. The map: The Moremi map is based on satellite photos. The front of the map consists of a map of the entire Reserve and on the back are six separate maps of Khwai river-front east, Khwai river-front west, an orientation map of Moremi, Xakanaxa area and the Moanachira river, Xakanaxa game-drive area and Bodumatau area. The roads were tracked by GPS and there are 162 GPS co-ordinates on the map.

General: As part of the Okavango Delta, Moremi consists of permanent swamp, seasonally swamped areas and dry land. It is one of the prime tourist destinations in Botswana and offers water activities, top game-viewing, some of the best bird-life in Africa and incredible scenery. Not to be missed!

Locality and size: The Moremi Game Reserve is nestled within the Okavango Delta and completely buffered by wildlife management areas. When it was first established in 1963, it covered only the dry-land triangle but today it comprises 4 871 km2.

How to get there: All the camps are accessible by air but only the dry-land triangle between South Gate, Mboma Island, Xakanaxa and North Gate is accessible by road. From Maun one travels north-east for 100 km to get to South Gate. From Kasane one travels south-west for about 265 km.

Where to stay: All the camps around Moremi are indicated on the map. Detailed address references are supplied in the Shell Tourist Travel Guide of Botswana, which is presented as a package with the Botswana map.

Best season to visit: Winter is the best time to visit (from May to August) but September to December is the best time for bird-watching. The roads are very difficult to negotiate during the rainy season and the animals are more scattered.

Christopher Columbus discovered the island of Hispaniola on December 5th 1492 and founded "La Navidad", said to be the first European settlement in the New World. It seems hard to believe that it has been six months since we enjoying snorkeling in the Galapagos, but time flies when you're having fun.
