Double-sided map of South Africa printed on waterproof and tear-resistant synthetic paper, with plans of Cape Town, Johannesburg and Pretoria. The map divides the country east/west with a small overlap between the two sides. Elevation tinting in feet shows the general relief. Mountain passes are marked, but there are no spot heights.

Road network includes selected local tracks, gives driving distances on major and secondary roads and indicates border crossings. Railways, major ferry connections and local airports are also shown. National parks and protected areas are marked and symbols highlight various places of interest, campsites or huts, rest houses and other tourist accommodation, beaches and diving sites, etc. Presentation of Lesotho and Swaziland is the same as for South Africa.

Latitude and longitude lines are marked at 1 degree intervals. The map is indexed and includes street plans of central Cape Town, Johannesburg, and Pretoria, highlighting selected accommodation, places of interest and various facilities.

Goede wandelkaart met vrijwel alle topografische details als hoogtelijnen, vegetatie, schaduwtekening maar ook de ingetekende wandelroutes en in veel gevallen ook fietsroutes (MTB). Gevaarlijke routes worden als zodanig weergegeven met een bepaalde markering. Berghutten en campings zijn goed terug te vinden op deze kaarten.

Daarnaast staan de toeristische bezienswaardigheden met symbolen vermeld. Kleurgebruik kan soms vrij fel overkomen, daardoor oogt deze detailkaart wellicht wat druk, maar het blijft een goed leesbare kaart. Sommige kaarten zijn geplastificeerd, maar helaas niet allemaal. De graden staan aan de zijkanten van de kaart, daardoor te gebruiken voor GPS.

De ANWB heeft een grote serie wegenkaarten van de belangrijkste landen en streken. Het zijn echte overzichtskaarten van vaak een wat groter gebied. Deze keuze zorgt er voor dat de schaal vrij grof is en bepaalde details zijn weggelaten. De kleurstelling is een beetje flets waardoor je niet altijd even makkelijk onderscheid kan maken tussen verschillende landschappen of natuurlijke aspecten.

Albania is the latest addition to ITMB's European map series. Lan and I visited the country last October to ground-truth our artwork before publishing and were pleasantly surprised to find good quality roads, friendly people, attractive scenery, and a quiet 'get-ahead' attitude. Although still underdeveloped, tourism in Albania is amongst the fastest growing in Europe. With its Greek, Roman and Ottoman architecture and its natural beauty, including Mediterranean beaches and the Albanian Alps, this is not at all surprising. The country had a reputation during the Cold War of being rather secretive and unfriendly, but it is the only formerly-communist-run country to have its totalitarian government hold a referendum on future governing systems (in 1992) and respected the will of the people as expressed and arranged for democratic elections. The country has being improving its infrastructure ever since and hopes to apply for EU membership this year. Albania has been an independent country for 100 years - not always wisely governed, but independent nonetheless! The cities of Berat, Durres, Gjirokaster, Korce, Shkoder, Tirane (the capital) and Vlore are included as insets for good measure. This is a double-sided and very detailed map of the country at a very easy-to-use 1:210,000 scale.

This latest edition comes out at a time when a good map of the largest country in Africa needs a good map the most. Sudan is not a country with an improving infrastructure, nor is it one of the safest countries for travellers. However, its position in Africa makes it pivotal to the politics and ethnicity of much of northeastern Africa, and its importance can be gauged by the fact that this ITMB title is already into its third edition. It is one of the most difficult countries in the world to map, simply because so much of it is difficult to enter. We wish to dedicate this map to those brave souls who continue to provide food and medical support for all the peoples of Sudan – the humanitarians, whose contributions have made this map possible.

The coastline of Canada’s British Columbia is long and varied. The best-known portion is the part just north and west of Vancouver, known as the Sunshine Coast. The rugged Coast Mountain Range makes road-building impractical for much of the interior, so communities such as Gibsons, Sechelt, and Powell River are joined together by Highway 101 and by ferries. Many Fiords take kayakers deep into pristine wilderness areas, and former logging roads are now commonly used for wilderness hikes. The famous Strait of Georgia, used by cruise ships to Alaska, cuts through the middle of the map, with the largely unpopulated and wild Bute Inlet leading TO Waddington Glacier and the vast Homathko Icefield. Side 2 of the map covers southwestern BC, including all of Vancouver Island and the southern interior as far as Nelson and north to 100 Mile House. Insets of downtown Vancouver and Victoria are included.

The home of the Haida nation is located off the west coast of British Columbia on a series of pristine islands. This detailed topographic map is the only map in print showing the entire archipeago. This is a wonderful wilderness area for kayaking or sea fishing!

Russia West Travel Reference Map 1:3,200,000 - ITMB

ITMB has prepared a map that is centred on Moscow and radiates outwards. Due to the projection necessary for a map close to the North Pole, St. Petersburg and Murmansk are at the top of the map, Rostov and the Black Sea are in the southwest corner, and the Ural Mountains bless the southeast portion of the map. The front side has an excellent inset of Moscow and the reverse a city centre map of St. Petersburg, along with the remaining portion of western Russia and the place names index.

In this edition, we have combined Mauritania with Mali. Although both are interesting countries, the two fit naturally together as a unit, albeit at slightly differing scales. Technically, this should be a 1st edition map, as it is the first time we have combined these two desert countries on to one sheet, but I ll let Robert at the Library of Congress worry about the niceties of bibliographic accuracy as soon as Trump allows him to do the work he loves for a salary. Mauritania was one of the most unusual countries I visited as a young traveller. Of course, I had an advantage, in that I was too young to know that what I was doing was supposed to be impossible. I entered from what was then the Spanish Sahara via a piste (a sandy track with multiple pathways, only some of which avoid soft sand), travelling with a young Bedouin man. In Zouerate, a mining camp, I had to tie my VW campervan onto a railway flatbed car, and endure hundreds of kilometres of a sand dune wasteland before reaching Choum, and a siding where I could off-load the vehicle. The track south to Nouakchott was covered with sand and treacherous. Nowadays, there is a paved road to the southern border of Morocco, and a good road all the way along the coast to Rosso, where a ferry can take one across to Senegal. Mali adjoins Mauritania, both being formerly part of French West Africa. The capital, Bamako, is an interesting town with quite a bit of colonial architecture still in place. East of there is Djenne, a forbidden city for infidels when I was there (see cover photo), but a fascinating mud-brick city. Further east again is Mopti, a river port where camel caravans off-load tablets of salt mined still far in the Sahara for transport by boat to Dakar. Further east again is Timbuktu (or Tombouctou as it is now spelled), at one time the most exotic isolated destination known to mankind. Further south is the Bandiagara escarpment, a must-see living area for locals who have created a living space from the sheer walls of the cliff. Both countries are fascinating places to visit.

The far north of Canada, north of 60 degrees, consists of three territories; the Yukon, the Northwest Territories, and Nunavut. Until now, there has never been a proper map of the territory that was carved off from the NWT a quarter century ago. With only 30,000 people and a scattering of settlements, Nunavut is larger than western Europe in area. This map took us years to prepare, using 1:250,000 government topo maps as a base and tracing thousands of little lakes. The traditional passageway of the fabled Northwest Passage is also shown. The most northerly civilian community in the world is on the map – Grise Bay, as well as Alert, the most remote place on earth.

Originally, the NWT covered all of northwestern North America west of the Louisiana Purchase and the Loyalist colonies, and north of the Spanish provinces (essentially north of current day Sactamento). Political changes have reduced its size over the past century and a half to the region of Canada north of the 60th parallel and east of the Yukon. Following the division of the NWT in to Nunavut (future map, coming soon), and nick-named BOB (back of beyond) the NWT remains a wild and fierce environment occupying a huge expanse of lakes and tundra in Canada’s north. This detailed map covers the entire territory and includes a bit of the eastern Yukon and the westernmost part of Nunavut, Great Bear and Great Slave lakes, the high Arctic islands, and an inset map of Yellowknife.

Coverage extends from Port Said and the Suez Canal beyond the Bab-el-Mandeb Straights to Djibouti City and Aden (Adan). On land in its northern section the map extends west to include the whole of the Nile Valley from Cairo to Aswan and Abu Simbel, and east to Tel Aviv and Amman. All place names are in Latin alphabet, with names of main towns also shown in Arabic

This is another one of our brand new maps. The artwork has been digitally-prepared, and this time printed double-sided to achieve a MUCH better scale. We have included a regional inset map of the Caracas area, and insets of the Roraima Mountains region, but the size of Venezuela is such that the rest of the paper consists solely of the country itself. The southern portion remains relatively unexplored and undeveloped, with few roads and only the occasional settlement, and the northern coastal region shows the road network very well. This is the first new map of Venezuela in many years.

1:12,500/1:2,200,000 Brasil is a huge country of growing economic importance, and of great touristic importance. Sao Paulo is one of the two ‘great cities’ of South America, and deserves to be better mapped than has been the case in the past. This new map updates all of our information on this vibrant city and now adds a new map on the reverse side covering all of densely-populated Southern Brasil, to Belo Horizonte in the north, and Rio Grande in the far south. For good measure, we have included a large inset of central Rio on the map. Printed on paper, double-sided.

This is our newest map for the Caribbean region and essentially replaces the now-defunct Rough Guide map for this country. Trinidad has a chequered history. First ‘discovered’ by Columbus, and named Holy Trinity, its inhabitants were fairly quickly deported as slaves to work in Spanish colonies elsewhere. Sir Walter Raleigh, who was little more than a pirate in spite of later saving England from the Spanish Armada, sacked the only Spanish settlement in 1595. Britain captured the island in 1797, adding Tobago to its administration in 1889. The country’s two claims to fame are the largest Carnival street festival in the world, and having the world’s largest lake of boiling asphalt. Tobago has an amazing history, having changed colonial masters 30 times in a century, as Britain, France, and Spain competed for dominance in the Caribbean. Nowadays, both islands are tourist havens, with delightful caves to explore on Trinidad and scuba diving on Tobago. This is a very detailed map, printed on paper, single-sided.

Daarnaast staat er veel informatie op, ook toeristische details en bezienswaardigheden. Erg handig zijn de zogenaamde groene wegen: met een groene lijn geeft Michelin aan welke routes het mooist zijn om te rijden.

Daarnaast wordt een beperkt aantal campings weergegeven, helaas niet allemaal. Meestal betreft het de zgn. camping municipale ofwel de gemeentecampings.

Benelux at 1:400,000 from Michelin, with information on driving regulations in each country, a distance and journey time table, plus enlargements showing in greater detail road access to Amsterdam, Brussels and Luxembourg City. Coverage extends east to include the Ruhr and the Eifel in Germany.

Roads network includes local roads and is graded according to the number of lanes. Junctions show full or partial interchanges. Steep gradients, level crossings and restricted entry sections are marked; scenic routes are highlighted. Railway lines and ferry routes are included.

Relief shading is used to indicate the topography, with colouring for forested areas. National parks are also marked. Small symbols indicate various landmarks or places of interest including campsites and youth hostels, but the map is not primarily designed to highlight tourist sights. 

The map also indicates locations with street plans in Michelin’s Red Guides to Hotels and Restaurants in Belgium and Luxembourg and in the Netherlands. Latitude and longitude lines are drawn at 20’ intervals. Multilingual map legend includes English. The index, arranged by country, is on the reverse of the map.

Also provided is basic information on each country’s driving regulations, plus a table showing driving distances and journey times between 26 main cities

The ideal map for planning your trip, as well as the journey itself – if you belong to the 99% of the island’s visitors, who have no intention whatsoever to take the narrowest dirt path leading to the remotest beach of the island! This map is very practical, at a scale of 1:200.000 which allows for a detailed presentation of the road network and sights without the exhaustive detail only the travelers – explorers are interested in. 

We made this map based on our archival series of 1:100.00 Crete maps. We omitted all secondary dirt roads and loads of other unnecessary little roads, magnified the symbols and width of the roads for better visibility, and made colors more vibrant. All this makes for the best general map of Crete on the market! 

Naturally, we have included detailed maps of Crete’s four large cities, on which, among other things, we have marked all hotels. 

A detailed alphabetical index of locations is also incorporated. Crete’s most important sights are depicted on the map in yellow, but we assigned Stephanos Psimenos (author of the travel guide ‘Unexplored Crete’) with compiling a list of the top 20 sights and basic information about them. Last but not least, like all of TERRAIN’s large maps, this one is also printed on Polyart ‘paper’, which is rip-proof and 100% waterproof!

Iceland is not only a lovely country to visit, it is one of our most popular titles. This is a relatively minor updating, designed to keep our artwork fresh and up to date. We have retained the cover picture of 'the' geyser that gave its name to all naturally occurring fountains of water that explode out of bedrock at regular intervals, as it so perfectly represents this beautiful country. As with previous versions, this map is printed on plastic for durability. The plastic is waterproof as well, which is not a big issue in Iceland, but the map can be used as an umbrella in the event of a sudden shower.

This new edition of Romania is combined with a separate map of Moldova. The two countries share a similar background, but follow different political paths. Mondova is a new country map for ITMB. We haven’t been there ourselves, plan on driving there next year after the IMTA Dresden show. We spent a very pleasant week in Romania, gathering updating material for this map. Romania’s entry into the EU has been met with a fair amount of grumbling from other members, but gradually infrastructure improvements are being completed and life is becoming more prosperous. It is a lovely country to visit, especially the north.

Deze kaart is zuiver gericht op de provincie als in de titel. Gebieden naast de kaart worden zonder kleur weergegeven. Ideale kaart als het gaat om het onderscheid in topografische details als hoogte, nationale parken, vegetatie en plaatsen. Met schaduwrelief wordt hoogte goed zichtbaar. Zeker geschikt voor fietsers, al heb je er soms wel veel nodig.

Nadeel is het feit dat deze kaarten niet altijd even goed up-to-date zijn. Het komt soms wel voor dat bepaalde wegen inmiddels veel groter zijn geworden dan ingetekend op de kaart. Maar dan gaat het vooral om de grotere wegen: voor kleinere details is het een prima kaart.

One of the titles in a series of contoured road maps from Spain's civilian survey organisation, each covering one administrative province, excellent in presenting the country’s topography and locations of its many national and natural parks. The maps have contours at 100-metre intervals enhanced by relief shading, plus spot heights. Additional colouring is used to indicate various types of vegetation. Boundaries of national/natural parks are highlighted. Road network includes minor local roads and tracks, and motorways distinguish between free and toll routes. Railways show high speed, double, and single track lines. Unless indicated to the contrary in the individual descriptions, the maps have UTM grid, plus latitude and longitude margin ticks at 15' intervals, and an index of place names on the reverse. The legend is in Spanish only. Unlike in the older versions of this series, on each title all the information continues outside the provincial boundary, but without the relief shading and vegetation colouring.

De ANWB heeft een grote serie wegenkaarten van de belangrijkste landen en streken. Het zijn echte overzichtskaarten van vaak een wat groter gebied. Deze keuze zorgt er voor dat de schaal vrij grof is en bepaalde details zijn weggelaten. De kleurstelling is een beetje flets waardoor je niet altijd even makkelijk onderscheid kan maken tussen verschillende landschappen of natuurlijke aspecten. 

Ook het register ontbreekt. Het grote voordeel is vaak dat het gebied op de kaart overeenkomt met de vraag van klanten. Voor het plannen van een vakantie een prima kaart!

ITMB is gradually mapping the entire USA in appropriate scales. Most States fit fairly well into the 1:500 to 1:750T scale, and Utah is perfect for mapping. It is also a perfectly nice place to visit, so we are pleased to add it to our program. This map shares a sheet with Colorado, so please note that the ordering information is the same. Utah is Mormon country and the temple in Salt Lake City is a sight to see. The Great Salt Lake to its west is interesting to view, but more popular is the Bonneville Salt Flats at its western edge, where so many speed records have been won. Utah also has two of Americas most scenic national parks: Zion in the southwest and Canyonlands in the southeast. Combined with Colorado to its east and to Idaho in the north (ITMBs Pacific Northwest regional map) and ITMBs companion maps of Arizona and New Mexico, this map of Utah is a very practical travel map, showing campgrounds, historic sites, and parklands as well as roads and place names.

Though Prince Edward Island may be the smallest Canadian province, its size can be deceiving. This gem of the Atlantic coast is full of history and secrets to discover. Charlottetown, the provincial capital, has the distinction of being the birthplace of Canadian Confederation (in 1864) as well as - more recently - having hosted the conference to propose constitutional reforms (in 1992). PEI is also the home of Anne of Green Gables, the famous protagonist of Lucy Maud Montgomery's tales of lush, rolling countryside. Map size: 27"X39"

This is a great map because:

It is the first GIS map of the island, meaning that this is the first time Kos is mapped with a topographic precision in proportion to the map scale. 

The road network of Kos is featured so completely for the first time. Every road, down to the secondary dirt roads and dead-ends, is illustrated on the map with precision. Naturally the main road network is clearly depicted, along with residential areas, the airport, the ports and the entire tourist infrastructure of Kos. 

It is waterproof and rip-proof. You can fold and unfold it a thousand times, fold it in irregular ways, dunk it in the sea or leave it out in the rain. This map is indestructible! 

It is remarkably detailed, as its scale is much larger (i.e. more detailed) than the competition’s, which makes everything crystal clear! 

It is the first time the island’s entire coastline is mapped. Cartography was done with TERRAIN’s specially equipped and staffed cartographic vessel. This means that you can locate all beaches of the island, down to the tiniest cove! In fact, the special features of every single beach are recorded: whether it is sandy or pebbled, whether it features natural tree shade, water, a beach bar or organized water sports, whether the seabed in front of the beach is sandy or rocky (so that you will know where to anchor). 

NOTE: In this first edition of the map of Kos, only the southern and a small portion of the island’s northern coast were mapped using TERRAIN’s cartographic vessel (due to strong northern winds during the mapping expedition). The majority of the northern coast was mapped by cartographers of the ground team, so some minor omissions may occur.
