Peter dH'amecourt woont inmiddels zeventien jaar in Moskou en is het NOS gezicht van de Nederlandse televisie. Zoals de meeste Nederlanders in Moskou heeft hij een haat/liefde verhouding met de Russische hoofdstad. In het eerste hoofdstuk vertelt hij over zijn kennismaking met het oude (socialistische) Moskou en het nieuwe. Interessant is zijn relaas over de gebeurtenissen aan het begin van de jaren negentig als de Sovjet Unie uiteenvalt. In de verder hoofdstukken vertelt hij o.a. over de macht van het Kremlin, het grootste obstakel voor de overgang van Rusland naar een transparante samenleving. Tevens maakt hij duidelijk dat hij geen bewonderaar is van president Poetin en hij zijn twijfels heeft over de burgemeester van Moskou, Joeri Loezjkov.
