Zoals gebruikelijk van Wandelnet weer een mooi uitgevoerde wandelgids met heel duidelijke topografische kaarten waarop de route is ingetekend, met ook openbaar vervoer en eet- en drinkgelegenheden. De route is goed beschreven met ook nog enkele leuke toevoegingen in de vorm van kaders met achtergrondinformatie. 

Bijna onvoorstelbaar: de Westfriese Omringdijk dateert van ongeveer 1250. Eeuwenlang hebben inwoners van het waterland gewerkt aan de dijk die hen moest beschermen tegen het water. Tegen de stormen uit het noordwesten en de dreiging van wat toen de Zuiderzee was. Ze hebben klei gebruikt om de dijk op te bouwen, zeewier om haar te versterken. Sluizen en molens gebouwd om het land droog te krijgen en het te veranderen van een moerassig veengebied in bruikbare gronden. En ook onvoorstelbaar: dat alles met handkracht.

Het werk aan de dijk moet immens zijn geweest. Soms lopen we boven op de dijk, maar soms ook er naast en slingeren we door de polders en natuurgebieden die aan de dijk grenzen. We lopen ook over de buitendijkse vooroevers die oorspronkelijk bedoeld waren om de kracht van het water in toom te houden. De Omringdijk wordt terecht gezien als het monument van West-friesland.

De route voert van Hoorn langs de Beemster naar Alkmaar en vervolgens langs het Noordhollandsch kanaal. U loopt langs een hoge smalle dijk naar Schagen. Onderweg ziet u de restanten van dijkdoorbraken in de vroege middeleeuwen - de littekens in het landschap. Via kasteel Radboud in Medemblik loopt u naar Enkhuizen, een van de prachtige, authentieke Zuiderzeesteden. Net als in Hoorn vormen monumentale koopmanshuizen, kerken en pakhuizen een tastbare herinnering aan de VOC-tijd.

Aan de Westfriese Omringdijk grenzen aan de IJsselmeerkust enkele prachtige natuurgebieden op de grens van land en water. Nieuwe natuur die bedoeld is een hedendaagse invulling te geven aan een eeuwenoud cultuurlandschap.

Een mooie, rijk geillustreerde campergids over Corsica. Aan de hand van een aantal routes (zie overzicht) kun je deze gids goed gebruiken om engeland te berijden met een camper. „Die kleine Bahn an der Grenze“, so könnte man die Strecke von Aachen nach Luxemburg gut nennen. Mit 125 Kilometern gehört die Vennbahn zu den längsten Bahntrassenradwege Europas. Durch die Fortsetzung der Radroute bis in die Stadt Luxemburg warten auf den Radfahrer insgesamt 230 spannende Radkilometer durch die drei Länder Deutschland, Belgien und Luxemburg.

In den letzten Jahrhunderten hat die politische Zugehörigkeit Ostbelgiens mehrfach gewechselt. Die Radtour auf der Vennbahn ermöglicht eine Auseinandersetzung mit interessanten Grenzgeschichten, von den Schmugglerzeiten mit der Entstehung von deutschen Exklaven bis zum vereinten Europa von heute. Neben den wechselnden Grenzverläufen kann in Eifel und Ardennen auch ein sprachlich-kulturell interessanter Übergangsraum entdeckt werden. In den belgischen Ostkantonen ist nämlich Deutsch die Amtssprache, im angrenzenden Malmedy Französisch, in Luxemburg zusätzlich auch Lëtzebuergesch.

Namensgebend für die ehemalige Bahn und den heutigen Radweg ist das Hohe Venn, ein einst riesiges Hochmoor, auf dessen Hochflächen bis heute große, offene Moorflächen mit einzigartiger Natur zu finden sind. Entlang der Radroute sind viele Relikte aus gut 100 Jahren Eisenbahngeschichte unmittelbar zu erleben: Viadukte und Tunnel, Gestänge- und Seilzug-Stellwerke, Bahnhofs- und Signalanlagen sowie überdimensionierte „Wasserhähne“ zur Betankung der Dampfloks.

Der Radweg auf der ehemaligen Bahnstrecke zeichnet sich durch eine besonders steigungsarme und fast autofreie Streckenführung aus. Nur die Anschluss-Etappe nach Ettelbrück weist etwas längere verkehrsreiche Abschnitte und auch kräftige Steigungen auf. Für diesen Bereich kann aber bequem auf die Bahn umgestiegen werden. Die Vennbahn wurde im Jahr 2013 mit dem „European Greenways Award“ ausgezeichnet und erhielt im Jahr 2014 auf der Messe „Fiets en Wandelbeurs“ in Amsterdam den Publikumspreis als „Radstrecke des Jahres 2014“.

Uitstekende wandelkaart van een deel van Noorwegen. De Noren zelf gebruiken deze kaarten ook voor hun wandeltochten in de berggebieden. Afhankelijk van de moeilijkheidsgraad van het gebied voldoet een 1:25.000, 1:50.000 of 1:100.000 kaart. 

Alle noodzakelijke informatie vind je er op terug: bemande en onbemande hutten, campings, rivier-oversteken, wandelroutes en veelal ook langlaufroutes; daarnaast natuurlijk de topografische details als hoogtelijnen, soort landschap of wegennet. Met UTM grid.
