Loire kastelen fietsroute: Saumur-Nevers (en terug) - 800 km 

Fietsen langs Frankrijks meest bezongen natuurlijke rivier met ter afwisseling beroemde kastelen en fraaie parken: dat is de combinatie die deze gids biedt. Zoveel mogelijk volgt de fietser rustige wegen en paden in een aangenaam landschap. Met de uitvoering van Loire-à-Vélo zijn jaagpaden verhard, fietspaden op dijken met elkaar verbonden en wegen veiliger gemaakt, zodat een toerfiets volstaat.

Fietsers ontdekken in eigen tempo het gebied van de Loireschippers langs de ongetemde rivier met steeds wisselende vergezichten, plus de oudste kanalen, gebouwd naar ideeën van Leonardo da Vinci en Gustave Eiffel. En proeven streekwijnen van de Anjou, Chinon, Pouilly en Sancerre, gerijpt in een mild klimaat. Historische stadjes als Chinon, Saumur, Amboise, Blois of La Charité bevinden zich in het ontstaansgebied van Frankrijk, waar Jeanne d’Arc haar zegetocht begon.

Deze fietsgids bestrijkt het centrale Loiregebied tussen de Anjou en het Bourgondische Nivernais, van Tours over Orléans naar Nevers. De route van ca. 800 kilometer leidt langs Loire, Indre en Cher, waarbij het dal met enkele korte klimmetjes ook verlaten wordt, naar weer andere burchten, kastelen en abdijen. Routeverkortingen zijn aangegeven. Bij Saumur sluit de route aan op de Normandië-Bretagne route, in Tours en Orléans op de St.Jacobsroute en in Nevers op de fietsroute Langs Oude wegen en pelgrimssteden. De Loireroute maakt tevens deel uit van Eurovelo 6 richting Bazel.
